Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane, 1890, by Heinrich Hofmann - Location- The Riverside Church N.Y.C

May you feel the hope of new beginnings, love and happiness as we celebrate this joyful Holy Week.

In spite of all the violence around us, in spite of the evil that we see, bigotry, division, all around us, we must never give up on that spark of divine life and grace within us that gives us hope. We know that each one of us can make a difference. We can fashion a better community. We can make a better world.

Happy Easter to you and your family as we celebrate our Father’s greatest sacrifice through his Son, Jesus Christ. Have a blessed Easter Holiday .

Maurice Lynch Music: Salutes Music Legend Edwin Hawkins
Maurice Lynch Music: Salutes Music Legend Edwin Hawkins
Edwin Hawkins

Edwin Hawkins, the gospel star best known for the crossover hit “Oh Happy Day” and as a major force for contemporary inspirational music, died Monday at age 74.
Hawkins died at his home in Pleasanton, California. He had been suffering from pancreatic cancer, publicist Bill Carpenter told the Associated Press.
Along with Andrae Crouch, James Cleveland and a handful of others, Hawkins was credited as a founder of modern gospel music. Aretha FranklinSam Cooke and numerous other singers had become mainstream stars by adapting gospel sounds to pop lyrics. Hawkins stood out for enjoying commercial success while still performing music that openly celebrated religious faith.

An Oakland native and one of eight siblings, Hawkins was a composer, keyboardist, arranger and choir master. He had been performing with his family and in church groups since childhood and in his 20s helped form the Northern California State Youth Choir.
Their first album, Let Us Go into the House of the Lord, came out in 1968 and was intended for local audiences. But radio stations in the San Francisco Bay Area began playing one of the album's eight tracks, “Oh Happy Day,” an 18th century hymn arranged by Hawkins in call-and-response style.

“Oh Happy Day,” featuring the vocals of Dorothy Combs Morrison, was released as a single credited to the Edwin Hawkins Singers and became a million-seller in 1969, showing there was a large market for gospel songs and for inspirational music during the turbulent era of the late 1960s.
“I think our music was probably a blend and a crossover of everything that I was hearing during that time,” Hawkins told blackmusic.com in 2015. “We grew up hearing all kinds of music in our home. My mother, who was a devout Christian, loved the Lord and displayed that in her lifestyle.
“My father was not a committed Christian at that time but was what you'd call a good man,” he said. “And, of course, we heard from him some R&B music but also a lot of country and western when we were younger kids.”
In 1970, the Hawkins singers backed Melanie on her top 10 hit “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)” and won a Grammy for best soul gospel performance for “Oh Happy Day.”
Meanwhile, George Harrison would cite “Oh Happy Day” as inspiration for his hit “My Sweet Lord,” and Glen Campbellreached the adult contemporary charts with his own version of the Hawkins performance. Elvis Presley, Johnny Mathis and numerous others also would record it
Hawkins went on to make dozens of records and won four Grammys in all, including for the songs “Every Man Wants to Be Free” and “Wonderful!” In 2007, he was voted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame. He also toured on occasion with younger brother Walter Hawkins, a Grammy winner who died in 2010.
Edwin Hawkins is survived by his siblings Carol, Feddie, Daniel and Lynette.

6 Fashion Films & Documentaries to Watch in 2018
By: Vivian Hendriksz
Thursday, December 28 2017

London - The fashion industry has produced its own pearls of beauty and wonder within the field of cinematography over the years. Considering the fact that the two sectors are both visually driven, it seems only natural that film in fashion go hand in hand. Whether they be in the form of a documentary, a short movie or a fashion-focused comedy (The Devil Wears Prada ring any bells?) there is something about a film celebrating the best or worst of fashion that captures viewers hearts and minds like no other. 2018 is set to become the year of the Fashion Film, which is why FashionUnited has listed its top 6 fashion movies, documentaries and series set to launch next year.

‘Mc Queen’
The turbulent life and the tragic death of legendary designer Alexander McQueen remains a source of inspiration for film and documentary makers to this day. Which is why the rise and fall of the British designer, couturier and multiple winner of the British Designer of The Year Awards is set to be the focus of not one but two productions next year (and potentially a third). The first is a feature length film, directed by Andre Haigh which aims to explore the late designer’s creative process in the month leading up to his 2009 retrospective show. Still untitled, the film will stat Jack O’Connell as McQueen. The second is a full-length documentary entitled “McQueen” and directed by Ian Bonhote. The documentary will focus on the life of McQueen, looking at how he “rose from Savile Tailor’s apprentice to become one of the most celebrated and controversial fashion designers in the world.” Lastly, a another film entitled “The Ripper” is said to be works which aims to study the relationship between the late designer and the late Isabella Blow, a leading fashion editor and patron of McQueen. An exact release date for all three productions has yet to be confirmed.

’The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story’
The sudden murder of Gianni Versace, founder of Italian fashion house Versace, outside of his beach house in Miami in 1997 shook the entire fashion industry. The mystery and violence surrounding his tragic death has captured the attention of millions, which makes it a logical story for producers and writers to use as a source of inspiration. Following the success of the ten-part series “The People vs. O.J Simpson: American Crime Story” from FX comes the next part in the tv series “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.” This nine-part series aims to follow the series of events which led up to the murder of Gianni Versace as well as the aftermath, while trying to remain as close to the real life event as possible. However, as the true motive behind Andrew Cunanan reasons to murder Versace remain unknown, it is likely that American Crime Story creator Ryan Murphy is likely to take some artistic liberities when filling the blanks and creating more backstory. The series is set to star Édgar Ramírez as Gianni Versace, Ricky Martin as his partner Antonio D'Amico and Penelope Cruz as his sister and business partner Donatella Versace. The first episode of the series is set to air January 17, 2018.

‘The Gospel According to André’
"I do not live for fashion. I live for beauty and style,” is one of the first things André Leon Talley says in the opening of the documentary focusing on his life, inspiration, and career. Former editor-at-larger for American Vogue, his unique view on fashion and appreciation of beauty has ensured his front row seat at all the major fashion shows for the past 25 years. In the new documentary, which follows Talley’s remarkable rise in the fashion industry, as well as his mission to help diversify the industy, veteran fashion insiders such as Anna Wintour, Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs and Valentino take turns discussing their relationship with Talley. The documentaty has already been screened at a number of international film festivals around the world but is set to be widely released to the public next year.

‘Phantom Thread’
Unlike the previous fashion films which are based on true stories, the film ‘Phantom Thread’ follows the fictional story of Reynolds Woodcock, a renowned British designer living in post-war London during the 1950s. Woodstock is part of the creme-de-la-crème of the British fashion industry: his creations are eagerly anticipated and worn by the upper classes of the population, such as members of the royal family and actresses. In addition to fashion, Woodcock has a taste for beautiful women, who tend to come and go in his life. Until he meets one lady, Alma, who turns his whole world upside down when she become both his muse and his lover. Starring Daniel Day Lewis and Vicky Krieps, the film has already been nominated for 2 Golden Globes and is slated for public wide release March 1, 2018.

‘Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist’
The first feature-length documentary covering the life and career of iconic British designer and activist Vivienne Westwood is set to launch next spring. Entitled "Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist" and shot by Lorna Tucker, the feature-length documentary aims to celebrate the designer's achievements in the fashion industry as well as her cultural influence. Also known as the ‘Queen of Punk’, Westwood is seen as one of the leading founders of the punk sub-culture in the UK in the 1970s. The documentary also aims to highlight the turbulent life of the British designer and her relationship with Malcolm McLaren, designer and former manager of the popular band Sex Pistols. The upcoming documentary is set to be screen at the Sundance Film Festival on January 20, 2018 under the 'World Cinema Documentary Competition' before the UK wide release on March 23, 2018.

‘The Times of Bill’
‘The Times of Bill’ is a new feature-length documentary examining the life and career of legendary NYTimes street photographer Bill Cunningham. The new documentary aims to follow the rise of his street-style photography as well as his private life. A humble man, Cunningham carved out a name for himself in the fashion industry after cycling through New York in his instantly recognizable blue sweaters and jackets, in search of one of a kind outfits, paving the way for street-photography. The documentary includes interviews with the iconic man himself, as well as never before seen photographs and images of the late photographer, who passed away in 2016. Written and directed by Mark Bozek and narrated by actress Sarah Jessica Parker, it also includes animations by Ruben Toledo and song by supermodel Pat Cleveland, underlining the ongoing influence Cunningham has within the fashion industry. The documentary is set to launch sometime in 2018.

Alyson Williams, Nat Adderley, Jr. Trio, & Matthew Whitaker – PAC the House Series

As the second event in HACPAC’s inaugural PAC the House series, this evening with two R&B superstars will heat up the stage. Known for her string of hits and solo career, Williams’ style complements that of pianist Adderley and his fabulous trio. Influenced by Chick Corea, John Coltrane, and Thelonious Monk, he has recently returned to his jazz roots. Together these two artists will blend R&B, jazz, and pop for a fabulous evening.
Alyson Williams is an R&B singer who had hits with songs like “Sleep Talk, “My Love Is So Raw,” and “Yes, We Can Can.” She started her career doing background vocals for artists including Melba Moore, BB&Q, Cashflow, Bobby Brown, and Barbara Mitchell before launching her solo career, which has produced numerous albums.
Nat Adderley Jr. is a pop and R&B pianist who spent much of his career as music director for Luther Vandross. The scion of a famed jazz family, which includes his father Nat Adderley and his uncle Cannonball Adderley. Nat Jr. began playing piano as a child. He performs his own works as well as tributes to his father and uncle with his trio, comprised of bass, piano, and drums.
Hackensack’s own Matthew Whitaker is a student of music. While greatly influenced by the past, he doesn’t intend on staying there, but rather he uses it to guide his playing, beautifully narrating his incredible journey and experiences along the way. His versatility and deep-rooted touch on piano and organ are slowly establishing him as a prominent young voice in today’s jazz scene.
PAC the House: Mission Statement
The mission of the PAC the House series is to present Bergen County audiences with an array of distinctive acts that may not appear on other area stages. The City of Hackensack and the Main Street Business Alliance, which co-sponsor the PAC the House series, carefully vet the performers to ensure a variety of cultural backgrounds and disciplines and to cultivate a hip ambiance for the redeveloping downtown. In the intimate Hackensack Performing Arts Center, the PAC the House series presents well-known performers as well as up-and-coming artists who promise to become new favorites.

VOGUE:Fashion News - Four Fashion Films to watch in 2018

We all love the thrill of a little Stranger Things, and the lure of Friends after a hard day at work is never lost on tired eyes, but there’s no doubt that a well made fashion film is high on our list of must-watches. Whether they’re documentaries, fashion-centric comedies or high-flying dramas, there’s something to be said about a movie revolving around our favourite topic. Luckily for us, 2018 is set to be the year of the fashion film. Here, we put together the upcoming films no doubt set to be become cult favourites — and although we’re not sure anything will ever beat The Devil Wears Prada, we’re willing to watch them all to find out.

Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist

Set to celebrate the icon that is Vivienne Westwood, this documentary will show the life of the designer up close and personal. Including interviews from her closest friends and family, including Joseph Corré, the documentary will be part fashion history lesson and part showcase of a legend. We’re in.

 The Times of Bill

Following the life of the iconic late photographer Bill Cunningham, who is heralded with popularising street style, comes The Times of Bill. Written and directed by Mark Bozek, narration by Sarah Jessica Parker, animations by Ruben Toledo and a theme song by supermodel Pat Cleveland, the documentary is set to be a star-studded, who’s who of fashion affair.

Oceans Eight

It might not be a documentary, but Oceans Eight is no doubt going to be one of the biggest fashion films of the year. With an all-star (and completely female) cast, including Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and Rihanna (and that’s just the beginning), the movie follows a heist at the Met Gala. Plus, part of the film was even shot in the New York-based Vogue US offices. Sounds like a fashion film to us.

McQueen

Long awaited and much anticipated, it seems a biopic of Alexander McQueen will finally be released in 2018, with production for McQueen finally underway by company Bleeker Street. According to Variety, the film will follow the life of the designer up until his untimely death at age 40, in 2010.

WWD Sarah Jessica Parker to Narrate Bill Cunningham Documentary - Maurice Lynch Music
WWD Sarah Jessica Parker to Narrate Bill Cunningham Documentary - Maurice Lynch Music
The actress has been tapped to narrate "The Times of Bill," written and directed by former HSN chief executive officer Mark Bozek.

Sarah Jessica Parker has been tapped to narrate “The Times of Bill,” a feature-length documentary about the late New York Times photographer and fashion historian. In addition, artist and illustrator Ruben Toledo has created the animations for the film while legendary model Pat Cleveland’s sole recorded song, “Tonight, Josephine” serves as the film’s theme song.

On the day Cunningham died 18 months ago, Bozek went into his basement and retrieved a 25-year-old interview he did with the photographer. The interview, which Bozek conducted when he was 27 years old and producing a fashion segment for television, was supposed to last “just 10 minutes.” Hours later, Cunningham was still talking — passionately and unabashedly — about his unprecedented focus on what women wore.
“If you asked me 18 months ago, if my after-work project that I found in my basement, would gain the support of Angela Ahrendts and her incredible global marketing team, I would have laughed out loud,” said Bozek, who was once chief executive officer of HSN. “It has become the primary focus of our new company’s goal to create exciting content that can be presented in a retail environment like never before. Traditional retail is not dead, it’s just often dead-boring. Bill Cunningham, who was the Nostradamus of fashion and society his entire adult life, absolutely saw how technology would change everything.”
Bozek did not know Parker prior to reaching out to ask her to narrate, and she accepted within days. “Ms. Parker is the very essence of New York and fashion and deeply respects all that Bill Cunningham stood for during his most amazing and unique life,” Bozek said. “She is the perfect narrator of this film.” The picture, currently in post-production, will be released next spring in a way that Bozek calls “unique and disruptive.”
