LIVE in Harlem U.S.A...."My Harlem 'Tis of Thee"....
LIVE in Harlem U.S.A...."My Harlem 'Tis of Thee"....
Congratulating to my dear friends  Ms. Alyson Williams,  Mr. Nat Adderley Jr. and also to the cast of  " My Harlem 'Tis Of Thee" a book by Stephanie Berry , music by Nat Adderley Jr.  I am so excited that my song” Summer Nights in Harlem” is part of this great production sang by Harlem’s First Lady of Jazz  Ms. Alyson Williams with Musical Director - Nat Adderley Jr.

A Musical exploring the dynamics of gentrification in Harlem as a transforming community comes face to face with their differences, and their cultural identities are tested at a traditional block party.

As Harlem prepares to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance, this presentation takes on a timely and historic significance as a documentation of art, culture and race in America. Businesses, schools, cultural institutions, politicians, the people--new and long-time residents--are creating their particular stories, investigating and illuminating their imprint on a world-renowned community.

Hear some of the most diverse voices of Harlem today as a transforming community comes face to face with their differences and their cultural identities are tested at a traditional block party.

We all know what Harlem was – the world renowned Mecca of black culture to which artists and thinkers of color moved in masse for more than a century.  This influx of creative minds established a significant cultural incubator through which a civilizing identity emerged that came to define African American artistry.

Diverse groups of people are moving into the neighborhood and blacks are disappearing.  In this decade of gentrification where is this historically African American community going?  We welcome diverse voices, impressions, ideas and perspectives in striving to reach a common ground for the new Harlem, whatever its complexion.

Featuring:
Alyson Williams, Tina Fabrique, Jose Febus, Rhonda McLean Nur, John Martin Green, Robin Baxter, Ted Hanan, Mara M. Sanchez,
and The Nat Adderley Jr. Trio

Thanks All

Maurice Lynch Music- Celebrates the Art of Mikel Kilgour
Maurice Lynch Music- Celebrates the Art of Mikel Kilgour

Maurice Lynch Music: Mikel Kilgour launches new Website Gallery..........It was such and exciting experience on September 28th, 2019 to be the Musical Director for"Go'in Bananna's" Celebrating Artist- Mikel Kilgour's Josephine Baker Art Exhibit. The evening was filled with over 100 paintings of Josephine. Mikel's interpretation's were stellar and overwhelming.

Harlem was applauding as Josephine returned on that magical autumn evening. My song " Tonight Josephine" sang by the incomparable Miss Pat Cleveland was a part this great celebration of all things Josephine. This event was historic. Many Veteran Fashion Modeling Legends were present (Versailles 73 model & Halstonette-Alva Chin, Vogue Cover Model-Peggy Dillard, Hermes Campaign Model-Tommy Garrett,  GQ's First Black Male Cover Model- Renault White, Bob Mackie- Muse- Lu Sierra, David P. Martin, Ebony Magazine Legendary Model and Commentator - Audrey Smaltz,  Alvin Clayton, Versailles 73 Model- Norma Jean Darden and Givenchy- Muse- Carol Collins-Miles and the list goes on and on......But what really caused a frenzy was  a person very dear to my heart Josephine Baker's son Jari (Jarry) Baker who has been a personal friend of mine for over 25 years.... But the real magic for the evening was the art. The art interpretations by Mikel Kilgour will keep the spirt of Josephine alive for many generations to come.

Mikel Kigour's Artist Director - Cynthia McCoy has shared a fantastic new website to celebrate the artwork.

Please follow the links below there is a wonderful article, art and website gallery. Many pieces are availble for purchase.

Mark Bozek’s documentary “The Times of Bill Cunningham” wins top honor at Aspen Film Festival 2019
Mark Bozek’s documentary “The Times of Bill Cunningham” wins top honor at Aspen Film Festival 2019
Maurice Lynch Music: I am so proud to announce that Mark Bozek won the 40th Annual Aspen Film Festival Audience Award for “The Times of Bill Cunningham” it was the Top Movie of the Festival. I’m so excited to be a part of this film….Maurice Lynch

Aspen, CO (October 1, 2019) – Aspen Film announced today its balloted Audience Award winners for the 40th Anniversary Filmfest which ran September 23-29 at the Wheeler Opera House and the Isis Theatre in Aspen and the Crystal Theatre in Carbondale.

THE TIMES OF BILL CUNNINGHAM, directed by Mark Bozek, was chosen to receive the Audience Award for Best Film and JOJO RABBIT, directed by Taika Waititi, received Audience Special Mention.

“As we wrap the 40th edition of Filmfest, we are delighted to announce our Audience and Audience Special Mention Awards, which are quite indicative of the mood and of the community and the politics of our time, says Aspen Film Executive + Artistic Director Susan Wrubel. “THE TIMES OF BILL CUNNINGHAM is a delightful and moving story of a behind-the-scenes cultural icon who brought joy to so many through his work. JOJO RABBIT is a film that certainly polarized the audience with its bold satire, however, it’s message of tolerance and understanding ultimately rang through.”  Wrubel added, “Aspen Film is so proud to have the ability to bring films of this caliber to this community. The response to Filmfest was overwhelming, and our films sparked a lot of dialogue, which is one of our goals.”

Timed to the spectacular fall color in the Rocky Mountains, Aspen Film presented a seven-day showcase of independent and big-screen cinema featuring 23 features and documentaries from the international festival circuit punctuated by filmmaker guests, in-depth discussions and education programming. For FilmEducates, this year’s participants were Aspen Middle School, Aspen Country Day, CMC Aspen, Colorado Rocky Mountain School and Yampah Mountain High School. There was also a special in-school screening of the world premiere, change-influencing WeRiseUP for students and many of the student groups came to the theatre for the influential and inspirational docs CHANGING THE GAME and MOVING STORIES.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary, Aspen Film presented its first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in the Cinematic Arts to Bob Rafelson – renegade and ground-breaking director, producer, and writer whose career spans four decades. Rafelson was the first recipient of Aspen Film’s Independent by Nature award in 1999 so it was only fitting that 20 years later he was honored again, looking back at his incredible career. In conjunction with the tribute, Rafelson’s 1990 film MOUNTAINS OF THE MOON was screened during the festival.

Aspen Film will continue its fall celebration of film with its monthly Indie Showcase screening of LINDA RONSTADT: THE SOUND OF MY VOICE in partnership with Metropolitan Theatres on Wednesday, October 2, 7:30pm at the Isis Theatre (406 E. Hopkins Ave.).

About the Winning Film:
THE TIMES OF BILL CUNNINGHAM
Directed by Mark Bozek, USA, 2018, 74 minutes

Narrated by Sarah Jessica Parker, THE TIMES OF BILL CUNNINGHAM features incredible photographs chosen from over 3 million previously unpublicized images and documents from iconic street photographer and fashion historian Bill Cunningham. Told in Cunningham’s own words from a recently unearthed 1994 interview, the photographer chronicles, in his customarily cheerful and plainspoken manner, moonlighting as a milliner in France during the Korean War, his unique relationship with First Lady Jackie Kennedy, his four decades at The New York Times and his democratic view of fashion and society.
Director’s statement from Mark Bozek:
“I am thrilled to receive Aspen Film Festival’s Audience Award. Grateful to this amazing festival’s 40th Anniversary and to Greenwich Entertainment for making it all happen. Onward!”
THE TIMES OF BILL CUNNINGHAM will roll out theatrically on Valentine’s Day, February 14th beginning in New York and Los Angeles.

Josephine Returns to Harlem in "Goin Bananas" with Artist Michael Kilgore
Josephine Returns to Harlem in "Goin Bananas" with Artist Michael Kilgore
“On Saturday September 28th 2019 “Goin Bananas” featuring the Art of Michael Kilgore will have Harlem ablaze with a night of Art, Culture and Music. I am so excited to be on the advisory board and Musical Director for this great event. I am so blessed and thrilled that my song “Tonight Josephine” is being presented as part of the exhibit. The air will be filled with the spirit of the Jazz Age…............… This will be a private gathering for the premiere of "Goin Bananas" presenting Michael Kilgore's 100 works on Josephine Baker.... A public gallery exhibition will be presented at a later date. ..….. Maurice Lynch

On September 28, 2019, the first Josephine Baker Fine Art Exhibit in history will take place at Harlem’s legendary Alhambra Ballroom in New York City.  “Goin Bananas” features 100 original master works created by fine artist Michael Kilgore in the cubism, fauvism, abstract figurative, impressionism, neo-expressionism, collage art and line art techniques.  Josephine Baker’s signature Bananas serve as a metaphorical inspiration that permeates throughout the exhibit, poised to be one of the most significant art events of the season. Goin Bananas is presented in collaboration with Cynthia McCoy, Art Director for the Exhibit.  This is a must see, once in a lifetime event as the artworks will be “collectible” for lovers of Josephine Baker!

Kilgore’s work was presented by the California African American Museum in a twice held over exhibit that succeeded the Geoffrey Holder and Carmen de Lavallade Exhibit.

Three iconic supermodels of LA CABINE DE GIVENCHY formed by HUBERT DE GIVENCHY will be reunited at the global premiere of the JOSEPHINE BAKER exhibit.

SANDI BASS, DIANNE WASHINGTON-KAY, and CAROL COLLINS-MILES who will be performing at the VIP RECEPTION on September 28th at the ALHAMBRA BALLROOM in HARLEM.

CAROL, SANDI AND DIANE are Advisory Board members of the exhibit, and have not seen each other since the late 1980s. Therefore, we are greatly honored!
GIVENCHY was the first to use BLACK MODELS in 1977 to an unforgettable effect after the show at VERSAILLES in 1973, where JOSEPHINE BAKER actually performed.   After GIVENCHY, YVES SAINT LAURENT was highly inspired to book BLACK MODELS.

Other supermodels on our Advisory Board include COCO MITCHELL, BEVERLY JOHNSON, LU SIERRA, ALVA CHINN, and PEGGY DILLARD who will also be performing.

Maurice Lynch Music-Celebrates Pat Cleveland 2019 Essence Fashion Award Honoree
Maurice Lynch Music-Celebrates Pat Cleveland 2019 Essence Fashion Award Honoree
Maurice Lynch Music: Celebrates ESSENCE Award Honoree - Legendary Super-Model, Arthur and Singer…Miss Pat Cleveland. As she receives the 2019 Award. …..Congratulations Pat.......Maurice Lynch-Producer.

ESSENCE Best In Black Fashion Awards: Our 2019 Icon Award Honoree Is Pat Cleveland

FOR DECADES SHE HAS CAPTIVATED AUDIENCES WITH HER DISTINCTIVE FACIAL FEATURES AND VIBRANT RUNWAY WALK.

A celebration of the best and brightest creators of color within the fashion space, ESSENCE’s inaugural Best in Black Fashion Awards shines a light on top designers, stylists, photographers, models and insiders who made an impact in 2019. The star-studded roster of honorees and nominees will gather at pre-NY Fashion Week dinner on September 4th.

Pat Cleveland is a trailblazing model that has sashayed, twirled and posed her way into legendary status. Cleveland first hit the scene in the 1960’s breaking barriers for women of color in an industry that had long ignored us. “I knew I would never have Grace Kelly’s little nose or Rita Hayworth’s figure. But I could have bright red lips, lots of hair, and a job with Halston,” Cleveland wrote in her memoir Walking With The Muses. Since taking her groundbreaking stance, the Harlem born supermodel has captivated audiences in the decades that followed with her lithe frame and larger-than-life personality.
Cleveland is one of the first African-American models to achieve prominence as both a runway and print model. She has modeled for designers such as Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior and Valentino. Following her work with the most enterprising creators, she has graced the covers of Vanity Fair, Essence, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, L’Officiel Vogue Paris, W and Elle. To this day, Cleveland continues to wow audiences as she triumphed at the all Black Zendaya x Tommy runway show alongside Grace Jones, Tyra Banks and several other legends.

Maurice Lynch Music-The Times Of Bill Cunningham Lands At Greenwich For 2020 Release ©Harold Chapman
Maurice Lynch Music-The Times Of Bill Cunningham Lands At Greenwich For 2020 Release ©Harold Chapman
Maurice Lynch Music: I’m sharing this great article. “The Times of Bill Cunningham” has received North American distribution. My song “Tonight Josephine” is the films theme song, sang by the incomparable Miss Pat Cleveland who served as a muse to Bill Cunningham…..Maurice Lynch-Producer.

EXCLUSIVE: Greenwich Entertainment has acquired North American distribution rights to The Times of Bill Cunningham, a documentary about the famed street and fashion photographer that is narrated by Sarah Jessica Parker. The Mark Bozek-directed film, which premiered at last year’s New York Film Festival, will now hit theaters in February 2020.
The movie features photographs chosen from more than 3 million previously unpublicized images and is told in Cunningham’s own words, culled from an unearthed 1994 interview, about a life that included living in France during the Korean War, his unique relationship with Jackie Kennedy and his four decades at the New York Times.
Cunningham was also the subject of the 2010 documentary Bill Cunningham: New York, directed by Richard Press.
“There are not many people whose lives and personality can sustain two very different but both thoroughly compelling documentaries,” said Greenwich’s Ed Arentz. “Bill Cunningham is one of those rare individuals.”
Live Rocket’s Bozek and Russell Nuce are producers. The deal was negotiated by Arentz and Submarine’s Dan Braun, also an executive producer on the film.

Maurice Lynch Music - Celebrates the Life of "The Queen of Swing" Norma Miller
Maurice Lynch Music - Celebrates the Life of "The Queen of Swing" Norma Miller

Maurice Lynch Music and The Harlem community mourns the loss, but celebrates the life, of the singularly wonderful "Queen of Swing," legendarily dancer, Norma Miller. She exited the dance floor, aged 99.

I was privileged to have known and I first met her through "The Ambassador of Lindy Hop the Late Frankie Manning". I learned so much from her about the music and Clubs of Harlem. She also inspired me to write many of my songs. I always felt that I was in the presence of royalty (if that "royal family" is preternaturally youthful, sassy and shockingly "frank" with their language)! When she'd appear you were in for a good time, a buzz would go through the room: "Norma Miller's here!"

Watch this 1941 dance routine. She comes in around 0:26, wearing a chef's hat (with her partner). This number is great and shows her at her prime. This one will get your toes-a-tapping! ..........A  Wonderful, Kind and Feisty Lady who will be greatly missed.

Here is her obituary from the New York Times
